| "Jewel" is a broodmare I had the opportunity to meet at Trout Creek Ranch. She's performance horse bred, but a case of ringbone forced her into retirement. She still has a lot of spirit and fire to her personality, and I thought that she had some of the same personality traits as John Singer Sargent's Madame Gautreau (who apparently was quite a "pill" to paint a portrait of). As I studied a picture of the famous painting, Madame X, I realized that she and Jewel actually had the same hair color, as well. Thus, I decided the name of this painting should be Madame Jewel. |
